FOI and Penn State University: strengthening collaboration through mobility, innovation, and entrepreneurship

From March 23 to 27, 2026, the Vice Dean for Teaching and Students, Associate Professor Zlatko Stapić, PhD, Associate Professor Kristina Detelj, PhD, Head of the Entrepreneurship Laboratory, and Izabela Oletić Tušek, Head of the International Relations Centre, visited Penn State University in the United States as part of the Erasmus+ mobility program. During their visit, numerous contacts were established, and concrete activities were agreed upon, focusing on future joint programs, student and staff exchanges, and strengthening institutional cooperation.

The visit program included multiple meetings with representatives from the Smeal College of Business, Penn State Global, the student support department, program management offices, and the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. FOI representatives also participated in classes, panels, innovation workshops, and activities aimed at developing joint initiatives and international mobility for students and academic staff. Special emphasis was placed on planning the Maymester program, exchanging experiences in e-learning and innovation, and strengthening international cooperation and new forms of collaboration between FOI and Penn State.

Associate Professor Zlatko Stapić held a series of meetings with professors and program leaders, including Prof. Kevin Linderman, Kelly Griffith, and Dr. Vasant Honavar, focusing on exchanging experiences in student support and the application of artificial intelligence in higher education.

Associate Professor Kristina Detelj was a panelist at the International Entrepreneurship Program Panel and delivered several lectures, engaging in experience-sharing with international students and faculty. She also participated in workshops at the Eric J. Barron Innovation Hub, including sessions such as “Assume Less, Connect More” and “Failing Upwards,” and in events like the Land Grant Competition, with a special focus on innovation and students’ entrepreneurial competencies.

Izabela Oletić Tušek held a series of meetings with colleagues in international cooperation, including Penn State Global and the Strickler Office of International Programs, as well as with Prof. Jeanette Miller regarding the upcoming visit of a group of American students to FOI. In addition, together with Prof. Kristina Detelj, she participated in lectures in Prof. Miller’s courses and actively contributed to panels and workshops on international entrepreneurship.

This visit represented an important step in strengthening the partnership between FOI and Penn State, with particular emphasis on the internationalization of study programs and mobility for students and academic staff. Alongside the official program, informal meetings with the local community were held, further enriching the exchange of experiences.
