Full Prof. Stjepan Lakušić, PhD re-elected as Rector of the University of Zagreb

The current Rector of the University of Zagreb, Full Prof. Stjepan Lakušić, PhD, was re-elected as Rector at the Senate election session held on Tuesday, 10 March 2026. He will serve a new term covering the period from the academic year 2026/2027 to the academic year 2029/2030.

The Election Committee responsible for conducting the rectoral election procedure at the University of Zagreb confirmed that Full Prof. Stjepan Lakušić, PhD was elected Rector by a majority vote, receiving a total of 58 votes.

His opponent, Full Prof. Ivan Koprić, PhD, received 13 votes, while two ballots were declared invalid.

In accordance with the Statute of the University of Zagreb and the documents Call for Proposals for the Election of the Rector and Instructions for Conducting the Rector Election Procedure at the University of Zagreb, members of the Senate voted by secret ballot. To be elected, a candidate had to receive a majority of votes from all Senate members. All 73 members of the Senate were present at the election session.

Full Prof. Stjepan Lakušić, PhD will begin his second term as Rector of the University of Zagreb on October 1st, 2026.
