SAILeR project begins; kick-off meeting coming up in Varaždin

The University of Zagreb, Faculty of Organization and Informatics, has launched the first activities of its new Erasmus+ project SAILeR – Streamlining AI in Learning Reimagination, the third FOI-coordinated Erasmus+ projects focused on developing learning design and learning analytics, this time with a stronger emphasis on the application of artificial intelligence. The project brings together five renowned European universities and continues the long-standing successful collaboration of international partners in modernizing higher education.

Education 5.0: FOI coordinated the development of an online course and led teacher training in the Maldives as part of the Erasmus+ DIGITAsia project

The University of Zagreb Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI), as the coordinator of the Erasmus+ project DIGITAsia – Digital Transformation of Asian Higher Education, led the development and implementation of an open online course aimed at educating teachers in the field of digital transformation and Education 5.0. The FOI team also delivered a comprehensive teacher-trainer education programme in late October at three universities in the Maldives.

FOI hosts Fulbright scholar for the first time – Dr. Thomas Penniston

The University of Zagreb Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI) is hosting a Fulbright Scholar for the first time – Dr. Thomas Penniston, a renowned expert in the field of learning analytics from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in the United States.

The 15th Student Poster and Online Section at Central European Conference on Information and Intelligent Systems CECIIS 2025

Forty students from the France, Lithuania, Croatia, Slovakia, Poland and USA delivered 20 research projects online or in form of posters presentations at the 15th Student Poster and Online Section, held within CECIIS 2025 conference. Chairs of this event are Prof. Dr. Violeta Vidaček Hainš from FOI, Prof. Dr. Victoria Appatova from University of Cincinnati, OH, USA and Dr. Antonela Devčić from FOI.

CECIIS 2025: 230 authors with accepted scientific papers

The 36th International Scientific Conference CECIIS – Central European Conference on Information and Intelligent Systems – was held from September 17th to 19th 2025 at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics in Varaždin. It was held in a hybrid format – both on-site and online – and brought together more than one hundred participants from across Europe and worldwide, including researchers, industry experts, and students. This year, 86 scientific papers authored and co-authored by 230 researchers from 21 countries on five continents have been accepted.

Opening of CECIIS 2025 at FOI

The CECIIS 2025 conference will take place from 17 to 19 September 2025 in Varaždin, with the option of online participation, offering attendees the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss innovations in the field of information and intelligent systems. Conference program is available here.

Cracker Barrel - Enhancing Decision-Making Agility in the Digital Transformation of Education

The Cracker Barrel Session is an informal, collaborative forum designed to enhance decision-making agility in the digital transformation of education within our higher education institution, with a specific focus on integrating AI. In the spirit of a traditional gathering, cheese and wine will be provided to encourage an open and relaxed atmosphere. The event will took place at CECIIS 2025 this September at FOI.
