HeyAIde IRI project launched – artificial intelligence for personalized healthcare and remote therapies

At the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Organization and Informatics, a kick-off conference for the three-year research and innovation project HeyAIde – Health Empowerment for You through AI Direct Engagement was held on April 29, 2026. The project is led by BIT4BYTES Ltd., in collaboration with partners FOI, Revent Smart Ltd., and ValMod Center, with the goal of researching and developing innovative smart solutions for personalized remote patient monitoring, consultations, and therapies.

The total project value amounts to €2,400,048.69 and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Competitiveness and Cohesion Programme 2021–2027.

Interdisciplinary teams of experts will develop advanced AI solutions for real-time patient monitoring, remote consultations with healthcare professionals, and the delivery of remote therapies. These solutions will be tested through implementation in online speech therapy practice at the ValMod Center.

The project addresses the current lack of reliable and secure tools for creating and sharing personal digital health records, as well as for systematic real-time patient monitoring. End users of the project solutions will include patients, physicians, licensed psychologists and speech therapists, as well as other healthcare professionals.

The event was opened by the FOI team leader, Associate Professor Dijana Plantak Vukovac, PhD, who welcomed participants and thanked the partners for their involvement, expressing confidence in a successful and productive collaboration. On behalf of the Faculty’s management, Associate Professor Zlatko Stapić, PhD highlighted FOI’s long-standing tradition in research and development projects, emphasizing the importance of such collaborations for the growth of both the faculty and the wider academic community.

Project leader Marijan Gregurić, representing BIT4BYTES Ltd., expressed confidence that the team would jointly develop useful and innovative products with a positive societal impact. Tatjana Novosel-Herceg, M.Sc., speech therapist and head of the ValMod Center team, emphasized the project’s importance for advancing speech therapy practice. Project coordinator Zlatko Salahović from Revent Smart Ltd. presented the project and key aspects of EU project management, focusing on organization, implementation, and project phases.

HeyAIde connects the entire patient care process—from data collection and monitoring to consultations and remote therapy delivery—into unified, integrated healthcare platforms and mobile applications. The goal is to empower patients to manage their health more effectively, while enabling healthcare professionals to directly interact with patients, collect data on their condition or therapy progress, and deliver remote treatments. Additional value is created through planned integration with wearable devices and the introduction of gamification elements to motivate patients to actively participate in their therapies.

The Faculty of Organization and Informatics plays a primarily scientific and research role in the project. The interdisciplinary FOI team includes Full Prof. Violeta Vidaček-Hainš, PhD, Prof. Renata Mekovec, PhD, Prof. Katarina Tomičić-Pupek, PhD, Assoc. Prof. Zlatko Stapić, PhD, Tara Nikolić, Lovro Posarić, and Ana Karlica, led by Assoc. Prof. Dijana Plantak Vukovac, PhD. The team will contribute to literature analysis, research and user-centered design, evaluation of user experience and interfaces, and system architecture design. This includes defining guidelines for engaging multimedia online speech therapy, ensuring scientific validity and applicability in real clinical environments. Research results will be disseminated through scientific and professional publications, conferences, and practice-oriented recommendations.

The HeyAIde project represents a strong collaboration between academia and industry, and an important step toward developing innovative digital healthcare solutions that will enable more reliable, secure, and effective personalized health management at a distance.
