On Wednesday, as part of the activities of the Laboratory for Applied Software Engineering, led by Associate Professor Zlatko Stapić, PhD, the research seminar "GenAI for Research Papers: From Draft to Publication" was held. The seminar was intended for lecturers, researchers, and doctoral students interested in the effective application of generative artificial intelligence throughout the scientific paper writing process.
Participants had the opportunity to explore practical approaches to using tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and other specialized AI platforms during all stages of scientific paper development – from literature review and structuring the paper to improving text quality, working with citations, and final manuscript editing. Special emphasis was placed on effective prompting techniques for academic writing, as well as hands-on work with participants’ own research materials.
On Thursday, the research workshop "The AI-Augmented Researcher: Empirical Studies on LLMs for Classification, Content Analysis, Topic Modeling, and Methodological Innovation" was held as part of the HRZZ project SeEduOpsAI – An Open Platform for AI-Supported Software Engineering Education.
The workshop presented the results of a series of empirical studies demonstrating how large language models are transforming modern research methodologies through the automation of tasks such as content analysis, text classification, and topic modeling. Participants were introduced to examples of LLM applications across various research domains, including Dark Web content analysis, processing of scientific abstracts, analysis of AI model characteristics, and comparisons of different commercial LLMs.
Special emphasis was placed on the reliability and methodological foundations of applying LLMs in research, including the use of evaluation metrics such as Krippendorff’s Alpha and Cohen’s Kappa, as well as the development of protocols and recommendations for their responsible and effective use in scientific work.
