FOI students and alumni present graduate study programs to prospective students

Created: 15.06.2026

At the beginning of June, the University of Zagreb Faculty of Organization and Informatics successfully hosted its Graduate Studies Day, an event designed for prospective students considering enrollment in graduate programs but still unsure about which specialization to choose. The event brought together students, faculty members, FOI staff, alumni, and industry representatives, with the goal of providing a comprehensive and transparent overview of study programs, student experiences, and career opportunities after graduation.

Presentation of Graduate Study Programs

FOI offers four graduate programs in Informatics:

  • Information and Software Engineering
  • Organization of Business Systems
  • Databases and Knowledge Bases
  • Informatics in Education

Upon completion of the IPI, OPS, and BPBZ programs, students earn the academic title of Master of Informatics. Graduates of the Informatics in Education program earn the title of Master of Education in Informatics.

In addition to informatics programs, FOI also offers the graduate program Entrepreneurial Economics (EP), upon completion of which students earn the academic title of Master of Economics.

During the presentations, special emphasis was placed on the unique characteristics of each program, key courses, project-based learning, opportunities for interdisciplinary work, and the practical application of knowledge.

Student and Alumni Panel and Open Faculty Office Hours

The central part of the event was a discussion titled “Graduate Studies Without Filters”, during which current students and alumni shared their firsthand experiences.

They answered questions that are most relevant to prospective students, including the level of academic difficulty, opportunities to combine studies with employment, the extent of programming involved, the most challenging courses, and advice they wished they had received before enrolling.

Alumni also spoke about their career development after graduation, their current professional positions, and how their education at FOI contributed to their professional growth.

The event featured student representatives from the graduate programs: Luka Kotorac, Viktor Lovrić, Mateo Zović, Mihaela Vrtarić , and Franka Ivas. Alumni who shared their post-graduation experiences included Petra Gladoić (Business Analyst at APIS IT), Martin Friščić (Software Engineer at Emil Frey Digital), Marta Bilić (Associate Product Manager at NEOGOV), Tomislav Milec (Multimedia Subjects Teacher at MEC), and Aleksandar Babić (Junior Developer at Xalax).

Throughout the week, faculty members organized open office hours, providing students with an opportunity to engage in informal discussions about courses, projects, research topics, and the opportunities available during graduate studies.

The event was moderated by Associate Professor Zlatko Stapić, PhD, Vice Dean for Teaching and Students, who emphasized that the best insight into a study program comes not from brochures but from conversations with the people who live it every day—students, faculty members, and alumni. Participants were encouraged to ask questions and make informed decisions about their future education based on real experiences and reliable information.

The event once again demonstrated FOI’s commitment to transparent communication, strong connections with alumni and industry partners, and the provision of relevant information to prospective students making decisions about continuing their academic education. Support in organizing the event was also provided by the Student Support and Career Development Centre.
