The accreditation is awarded by the renowned international organization ASIIN (Accreditation Agency for Study Programmes of Engineering, Information Science, Natural Sciences and Mathematics), a leading German and international accreditation agency for study programs in the STEM field. Based in Düsseldorf and with more than 5,000 accredited programs in over 25 countries, ASIIN represents a strong symbol of quality and international recognition. Its accreditations confirm the alignment of study programs with the highest European standards and ensure the trust of employers, students, and the academic community in the quality of education.
By obtaining ASIIN accreditation, FOI’s undergraduate university study program Information and Business Systems has been confirmed as a program that successfully defines educational goals, follows modern trends, and achieves a high level of graduate success in the labor market. FOI has thereby obtained three relevant standards that fully position it within the STEM field: SSC 04 for computer science and computing, SSC 07 for business informatics and information systems, and the Euro-Inf criteria, a European standard for accreditation of computer science studies, confirming full compliance with European educational standards in the IT field. This further strengthens the Faculty’s international reputation and opens new opportunities for academic and professional cooperation at the global level.
The Information and Business Systems study program is continuously evolving to respond to the challenges of digital transformation and the needs of the economy. As part of a comprehensive revision, four modern specializations have been introduced: Software Systems Development, Artificial Intelligence in Business, Networked Systems and Computer Games, and Business Systems Analysis and Design. These specializations reflect key areas of development in informatics and business within the context of Industry 4.0 and enable students to acquire specialized knowledge and competencies.
In the first and second years of study, students gain a solid foundation through a shared set of compulsory courses, while in the third year they are offered the opportunity to choose a specialization through four groups of elective courses. This achieves an optimal balance between fundamental knowledge and the individualization of the educational path, which is one of the key advantages of this study program.
The Software Systems Development specialization focuses on building core competencies required for the development of modern information solutions, with an emphasis on digitalization and organizational transformation. Artificial Intelligence in Business covers areas such as machine learning, data analytics, and intelligent systems, enabling students to develop innovative solutions and new business models. Networked Systems and Computer Games focus on advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things, cyber-physical systems, and the development of interactive digital content, while Business Systems Analysis and Design continues FOI’s strong tradition of linking business processes and information technology.
The special value of this study program lies precisely in its interdisciplinarity and integration of knowledge from informatics and business, thereby preparing students for the complex challenges of modern organizations. The program is aligned with labor market needs, and its graduates achieve notable careers in various sectors, from the IT industry to business consulting and systems management.
“Obtaining ASIIN accreditation is the result of continuous investment in teaching quality, curriculum development, and international cooperation, as well as the dedicated work of faculty members, associates, students, and all employees of the Faculty. This recognition further confirms FOI’s strategic commitment to excellence and internationalization,” emphasizes Dean Prof. Marina Klačmer Čalopa, PhD.
Following the already achieved EFMD accreditation for the graduate study program Entrepreneurship Economics in 2024, and excellent results in the re-accreditation procedures conducted by AZVO, this new international quality endorsement further strengthens FOI’s position as one of the leading higher education institutions in the region and beyond. The Faculty thus continues to build its recognition as a center of excellence in the field of informatics and organization, providing students with an education that makes them competitive in the global labor market.
ASIIN accreditation of the Information and Business Systems study program represents a strong impetus for the further development of the Faculty, as well as a guarantee to students that they have chosen a program that meets the highest international quality standards and opens the door to a successful professional future.
