FOI improves the international scientific journal JIOS

Created: 12.03.2026

The University of Zagreb Faculty of Organization and Informatics is the publisher of the international scientific journal Journal of Information and Organizational Sciences (JIOS), which has been published since 1977. The journal publishes original scientific papers in the field of social sciences, with a particular emphasis on information sciences and their application in organizations and society. JIOS is fully open access and available on its website (jios.foi.hr).

The journal is indexed in relevant international databases and repositories, including Web of Science, Scopus, DOAJ, INSPEC, and Hrčak, ensuring high visibility and international recognition.

To date, 39 volumes and 55 issues have been published. The journal is co-funded by the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth of the Republic of Croatia.

Since March 2025, JIOS has been using the ScholarOne system for manuscript submission and management. The new platform enables authors to submit manuscripts through a simpler and more intuitive process with clearly guided steps and real-time tracking of manuscript status. The system supports integration with ORCID author identifiers, ensuring reliable author identification and easier linking of publications with researchers’ profiles. Reviewers can also automatically generate review certificates, which are available directly within their user profiles. By introducing the ScholarOne platform, JIOS further aligns its editorial process with the practices of leading international scientific publishers and ensures a more efficient, transparent, and professional peer-review process.

In addition, the following improvements have been introduced:

  • a more clearly defined scope and thematic focus of the journal;

  • a refreshed composition of the Editorial and Advisory Boards;

  • the introduction of Online First publication and new manuscript preparation templates;

  • integration of a similarity-checking system;

  • reduced time to first decision for authors (5–7 days for administrative screening, an average of 3 weeks for peer review, with a target of feedback within 40 days).

Since April 2025, a total of 488 manuscripts have been processed, with an average of around 44 submissions per month. Original research articles account for 88.5% of all published papers, while the direct acceptance rate is only 3–4%, confirming the journal’s selectivity and high editorial standards.

In the coming period, JIOS plans to further strengthen its visibility within the European research area and invites researchers and international scientific networks to actively follow and share information about the journal.
