Since the beginning of this academic year, FOI students have had the opportunity to attend theoretical lectures that go beyond traditional instruction, emphasizing the real-life impact of daily movement—or its absence. This lecture exemplified the program’s new, innovative approach, combining interactive discussion with practical guidance on integrating kinesiology-based activities into daily life to improve health and prevent the risks associated with sedentary behavior.
Students gained valuable insights into how inactivity affects the body and learned concrete strategies for incorporating movement into their routines. The session also highlighted how TZK courses can play an active role in promoting long-term well-being, demonstrating the direct connection between academic knowledge and practical application.
About the Lecturer
Mario Starek brings a unique combination of academic, professional, and athletic experience. A graduate of the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Kinesiology, he specializes in functional anatomy, neuromechanics, rehabilitation, and motor skills development. His professional work as a private trainer and manual therapist focuses on functional recovery, injury prevention, and improving quality of life.
In addition to his academic and clinical work, Starek is an elite athlete and member of the Croatian bobsleigh team, competing at international championships and Olympic qualifiers. His extensive experience in sport, rehabilitation, and kinesiology allowed him to bridge theory and practice in a way that deeply engaged students, making the lecture a prime example of FOI’s innovative approach to physical education.
By combining cutting-edge theory with practical application, FOI continues to redefine how students experience TZK, ensuring that lessons in kinesiology are not only informative but also directly beneficial to daily life.
