Strengthening the Partnership and Research Collaboration Between FOI and KIT

From July 2 to 4, 2025, three vice deans from the University of Zagreb Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI), visited the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany on a study visit that was focused on deepening the existing collaboration and opening new opportunities for academic mobility and joint scientific research initiatives. This visit marks a significant step in FOI’s internationalization efforts.

The key topics discussed during the meetings—in which FOI was represented by Assoc. Prof. Martina Tomičić Furjan, PhD (Vice Dean for Science, Projects and International Cooperation), Assoc. Prof. Ivan Malbašić (Vice Dean for Business and Human Resources), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zlatko Stapić (Vice Dean for Education and Students) - included current forms of student mobility, the potential development of faculty and staff exchanges, and joint work on scientific research projects. The discussions also addressed challenges in student mobility to date, such as course alignment, differences in study levels, and opportunities for additional engagement through Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs) and short-term visits.

During the visit, numerous meetings were held with various departments and institutes at KIT, including:

  • The Business Information Systems Research Group (Institute of Applied Informatics and Formal Description Methods)

  • The Institute for Entrepreneurship, Technology Management and Innovation

  • The Institute for Information Systems

  • The Institute for Customer Insights

  • The Karlsruhe Decision & Design Lab (KD²Lab)

  • The International Office of the School of Economics and Management

  • KIT International Affairs

The collaboration between FOI and KIT dates back to 2006, when it began through the Tempus project “Courses for Institution Building in Croatia – eGovernment”. An Erasmus agreement between the two institutions was signed in 2020, which has since enabled the exchange of multiple students from both sides.

This visit further strengthens the foundation for continued cooperation between FOI and one of Europe’s leading technical universities, opening new possibilities for the internationalization of education, research, and professional development.
