Unit Meetup at FOI: Fearlessly talking about entrepreneurship in the IT community

Created: 05.05.2025

On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, the Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI) hosted another successful event aimed at connecting alumni, students, and representatives of the IT industry. In collaboration with one of Croatia’s largest IT associations – Unit (formerly CISEx) – a meetup titled “Without Fear: Debunking Myths About Entrepreneurship in the Croatian IT Community” was held.

The event gathered numerous entrepreneurs, experts, members of the local IT community, as well as current and former FOI students, who shared their experiences about the challenges and realities of the entrepreneurial journey in Croatia through candid conversations and a panel discussion.

The program also showcased FOI’s latest steps in supporting innovation, including the presentation of the Regional Center for Pre-incubation in Smart Industry, which will serve as a supportive platform for future entrepreneurs.

The highlight of the evening was the panel discussion featuring:

  • Goran Kanižaj, CEO of SICK Mobilisis

  • Saša Kordić, founder of Azara Digital and FOI student

  • Sven Marušić, Unit Board Member and founder of Orangepill

A special contribution to the program was made by Ivan Bešlić, president of Unit and co-founder of Sofascore, who shared personal reflections on his career path, entrepreneurship development, and building a successful IT company from Croatia.

The panelists spoke openly about their ups and downs, breaking down common myths about starting a business in the IT sector. The audience had the chance to hear about real challenges, as well as the motivation and passion that drive local entrepreneurs despite bureaucracy and market uncertainties.

Following the official part of the program, the gathering continued in a relaxed atmosphere with networking, exchanging contacts, and sharing new ideas.

With this meetup, FOI and Unit once again confirmed the importance of open dialogue and networking in building a strong, connected, and resilient IT community in Croatia.
