Two International Scientific Conferences at FOI in June: SDA 2025 and BIOSTAT 2025

The University of Zagreb Faculty of Organization and Informatics will host two prestigious International Scientific Conferences in Varaždin, from June 9th to 14th, 2025.

10th Symbolic Data Analysis Workshop – SDA 2025

The 10th Symbolic Data Analysis Workshop – SDA 2025 will be held from June 9 to 11, 2025, organized by the Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI) and the Croatian Mathematical Society. The workshop brings together international experts in symbolic data analysis, with this year’s participants coming from Costa Rica, Brazil, the USA, Taiwan, South Africa, Italy, Portugal, France, Austria, Slovenia, and Croatia.

The workshop program includes:

  • June 9 at 9:30 AM: a free online tutorial and software presentations.
    Speakers include:

    • Paula Brito (University of Porto, Portugal) – Tutorial: "Symbolic Data Analysis – Why, How, What for?"

    • Oldemar Rodriguez (University of Costa Rica) – RSDA Package

    • Pedro Duarte Silva (Universidade Católica Portuguesa) – MAINT.Data

    • Antonio Irpino (University of Campania "L. Vanvitelli", Italy) – HistDAWass

  • June 10 at 2:30 PM: a panel discussion titled "New Horizons in Official Statistics: Techniques, Tools, and Challenges", to be held in the FOI Council Hall.
    Panelists include:

27th International Scientific Symposium on Biometrics – BIOSTAT 2025

From June 12 to 14, 2025, FOI will also host the 27th International Scientific Symposium on Biometrics – BIOSTAT 2025, organized by the Croatian Biometric Society (HBMD – Croatian Region of the International Biometric Society – IBS), in cooperation with FOI and the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology. The symposium is held under the patronage of the University of Zagreb.

The program includes:

  • The 25th Biometric School, led by Paula Brito, titled "Symbolic Data Analysis: Taking Variability in Data into Account"

  • Invited lectures:

    • Renee’ H. Martin (Medical University of South Carolina, USA): "Optimizing Clinical Trials: A Deep Dive where Methodology meets Management"

    • Andrea Berghold (Medical University of Graz): "IPD meta-analysis"

  • On June 12 at 3:30 PM, a celebration will be held marking the 35th anniversary of the Croatian Biometric Society and its recognition as the Croatian Region of IBS.
    Invited speakers include:

    • Iris Pigeot – President of IBS

    • John Vena: "Ten Years of Scientific Exchange and Fellowship; Needed Now, More Than Ever"

    • Lynne Billard: "The International Biometric Society – A History Through the Archives"

    • HBMD Presidency: "The Croatian Biometric Society – A History from IBS to IBS"
