Traditional 13th International Research Student Symposium on Intercultural Learning

The traditional 13th International Research Student Symposium on Intercultural Learning is being held at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics from May 25 to June 2, 2025. About 40 students and professors from partner institutions in the USA - University of Cincinnati, Ohio, University of Central Florida, Orlando and Indiana State University from Terre Haute, Indiana will participate in the Symposium. The project manager is Full Prof. Violeta Vidaček Hainš, PhD.

This is a continuous long-term collaboration aimed at encouraging the involvement of students in research projects that have an international component. Students will, among other things, present research results on the possibilities of applying digital technologies in psychology, medicine, economics, management, sports and related fields. The Symposium will also feature invited lectures by Prof. Victoria Appatova, PhD as part of the activities of the FOI Commission for the Implementation of the Gender Equality Plan and Prof. Emeritus Sergay Gginshpun with the aim of further promoting the internationalization of higher education institutions.

In addition to participating in research projects, American and Croatian students will learn about Croatia's cultural and natural heritage under UNESCO protection. The field research "ICT Integration within UNESCO"  is organized at the locations of Plitvice Lakes and Zadar city.

The project began in 2010 and since then, symposia has been organized annually in the USA and Croatia. So far, several hundred students, teachers, volunteers and members of the local community have been directly or indirectly involved in these activities. In addition to this year's partner universities, previous symposia have also included American students from De Paul University Chicago, IL, University of Illinois Chicago, IL, Penn State University, PE, Carlow University Pittsburg, PE and University of South Carolina, SC.

The student symposium promotes the values ​​of volunteerism, inclusivity, and diversity, and helps students in their future career development. Friendships made during international exchanges represent lasting values ​​for young people from Croatia and United States.

Long-term support in the organization and implementation is provided by foreign partner universities from the USA, the FOI and UNIZG Student Union, the FOI and UNIZG International Cooperation Offices, the FOI Volunteering and Humanitarian Work Center, the FOI Board, local government and self-government units, and FOI alumni - graduate students who have participated in the Symposia in previous years, media representatives, and numerous employees and students of the Faculty.

We use the opportunity to thank all the winners and institutions that have continuously supported this project for years.
