37th CECIIS opens: New generations of Intelligent systems and AI as a cognitive partner
How is artificial intelligence changing the way we learn, create, make decisions and advance industry? These questions are at the heart of the 37th international scientific conference CECIIS – Central European Conference on Information and Intelligent Systems, officially opened at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI) in Varaždin. Under the theme “The Next Wave of Intelligent Systems”, the conference brings together researchers, scientists, professionals, students, and representatives of academia and business from Croatia and abroad from 16 to 18 September. For the first time, a full pre-conference day was also organised, introducing new formats for research events aimed at the Croatian and international academic and business communities.

FOI at EAIE Glasgow 2026 – strengthening international partnerships and visibility
This year, the Faculty of Organization and Informatics once again participated in the EAIE Conference and Exhibition, Europe’s largest conference dedicated to international higher education. The event in Glasgow brought together more than 7,300 international higher education professionals from over 100 countries. FOI was represented by Associate Professor Martina Tomičić Furjan, PhD, Vice-Dean for Research, Projects and International Cooperation, and Izabela Oletić Tušek, Head of the Centre for International Cooperation.

LAS project launched: focus on developing an AI-Supported learning analytics system
On Wednesday, 9 September 2026, the University of Zagreb Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI) presented the project “Learning Analytics Ecosystem Supported by Artificial Intelligence - LAS”, a strategic research and development project led by FOI. The project focuses on developing the concept and prototype of a comprehensive learning analytics system that will use artificial intelligence to support students, educators and decision-makers in higher education. In addition, the project results and the system will be adapted for use in industry and the public sector, as lifelong learning and education have become imperative for everyone.

International Student Section CECIIS 2026 with participants from South Africa, India, Ireland, Slovakia and Croatia
The 16th Student Online and Poster Section CECIIS 2026 will be gathering a diverse group of students from several countries. This year, participants are joining from South Africa, India, Ireland, Slovakia and Croatia, contributing to the international character and interdisciplinary spirit of the conference.

First LTR Point of the Pre-Incubation Centre opens in Municipality of Gornji Kneginec
On 7 July, the first LTR Point was opened at the premises of the former municipal building at Trg dr. Franje Tuđmana 2C in Turčin. The facility is part of the implementation of the Regional Pre-Incubation Centre for Smart Industry project, led by the University of Zagreb Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI), with a total value of €6.1 million and financed through the ITU mechanism.

Research visit of Prof. Luis de Marcos Ortega to FOI
On Wednesday, July 22, and Thursday, July 23, 2026, the University of Zagreb Faculty of Organization and Informatics (FOI) hosted a seminar and a workshop dedicated to the application of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and large language models (LLMs) in scientific research. The activities were organized as part of the research visit of Prof. Luis de Marcos Ortega from the University of Alcalá (Spain), carried out within the activities of FOI’s Laboratory for Applied Software Engineering.

UKM delegation from Malaysia visits FOI to strengthen AI and robotics collaboration
A delegation from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), one of the partner universities in the Erasmus+ DIGITAsia project coordinated by the Faculty of Organization and Informatics, visited FOI for a two-day study visit. The visit built upon the successful collaboration established through the project and focused on the exchange of knowledge and experience in the fields of artificial intelligence and humanoid robotics in education.
