CECIIS 2026 in Varaždin: Exploring the Next Wave of Intelligent Systems

From September 16 to 18, 2026, the 37th International Scientific Conference CECIIS – Central European Conference on Information and Intelligent Systems will be held in Varaždin, organized by the University of Zagreb Faculty of Organization and Informatics.

The conference will once again bring together researchers, academics, professionals, and representatives of the academic and business communities interested in the development of information and intelligent systems.

This year’s conference theme, The Next Wave of Intelligent Systems focuses on the relationship between humans and digital technology, with particular emphasis on artificial intelligence as a cognitive partner, rather than merely a tool for automation.

In addition to the main theme, CECIIS 2026 will cover a range of areas relevant to the development and application of contemporary technologies, including the following scientific sections, within which accepted research papers will be presented:

  • Computer Games,
  • Cyber-Physical Systems and Intelligent Energy,
  • Databases and Knowledge Bases,
  • Digital Transformation and Corporate Culture,
  • Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth,
  • Intelligent Systems,
  • Learning Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Educational Technologies,
  • Strategic Planning and Decision-Making,
  • Trends in Software Engineering,
  • The Next Wave of Intelligent Systems.

Keynote lectures

This year’s CECIIS programme will be further enriched by three international keynote lectures delivered by distinguished experts in the fields of artificial intelligence, smart industry, and the development of intelligent systems:

More information about the keynote lectures can be found here.

Pre-Conference Day

This year’s edition of the conference also brings a new feature – a dedicated pre-conference day on September 15, designed as an opportunity for learning, exchanging experiences, and connecting with fellow participants before the main conference programme begins.

For the first time in CECIIS history, the programme will feature “Warm-up Talks” – sessions combining formal and informal formats, offering participants an opportunity to discuss global trends and challenges in a more relaxed setting. Warm-up Talks are open to registered conference participants, with more information to be announced soon.

Workshops

CECIIS 2026 will also feature research and hands-on workshops focused on developing knowledge and skills while fostering connections among researchers. One of them is “Using Learning Analytics to Explore Learning Patterns and Paths,” organized by FOI’s LA Laboratory in collaboration with the TRUELA and SAILeR project teams. More information about the workshop is available here.

The second workshop, “Agility in Action: Decision-Making for Today's Higher Education,” organized by FOI’s Laboratory for Strategic Planning and Decision-Making, will focus on agility and decision-making in contemporary higher education. More information is available here.

A space for projects, research and new collaborations

Once again, the conference goes beyond the traditional format of a scientific event, offering a variety of formats that encourage knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, connections between the academic and professional communities, and the development of new project ideas.

CECIIS 2026 will be held from September 16 to 18, 2026, in Varaždin, at Pavlinska 2, with an option for online participation. The regular registration deadline is September 9, 2026, while the early bird registration deadline is August 28, 2026.

Detailed information about registration, conference events, and participation opportunities is available on the CECIIS website.
