Prof. Ph.D.Sc. Violeta Vidaček Hainš lectured at the University of Cincinnati, OH, USA

Prof.dr. Violeta Vidaček Hainš visited the University of Cincinnati in Ohio, USA from November 10-16, 2024. She delivered several lectures for students and presentations for teachers and staff with topics linked to the cross-cultural communication competences, COIL - collaborative online international learning teaching method. She shared information about the upcoming 13th Students Research Symposium on Intercultural Learning and about the 15th Student section of the CECIIS international conference.

Lecture "Cross-cultural Communication: American and Croatian Students' Experience" was delivered at the Lindner College of Business UC. Presentation was part of the course leded by Prof. emeritus Larry Gales and supported by Assoc. prof. dr. Whitney Westrich (November 12th,  2024). Participants are students who are collaborating virtually with FOI students and students from Indonesia at the Strategic Human Resources Management course  (leaded by Prof. dr. Marina Klačmer Čalopa, Prof. dr. Violeta Vidaček Hainš and dr. Karolina Kokot).

The development of Collaborative online international learning (COIL) teaching methods  started at the Negotiation in an international environment (NIE) course 2018/19. The course is leaded by Prof.dr. Violete Vidaček Hainš, dr. Antonela Devčić and Maja Kućar, mag. psych. The first application of COIL at the NIE course was realized in collaboration with professor Andrea Carita from the University of Applied Sciences Amsterdam, NL and according   the initiative of Izabela Oletić Tušek, Head of the FOI International Cooperation Office. After the initial application, COIL was extended to different courses at FOI and partner universities. Furthermore, it is planned to include students from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, University of Cincinnati, OH, USA and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, NL to the COIL Negotiation in an international environment course.

Furthermore, the professor V. Hainš delivered presentation for teachers at Clermont College UC, which was realized with the organizational support of prof. Ph.D. Victoria Appatova and dean prof.dr. Jeffy Bauer and prof. dr. Meera Rastogi.  The main goal of this presentation was to continue and expand the long-standing cooperation (14th Nov.).

Scholars from the TRIO McNair UC program, who will visit FOI as part of the 13th Student Research Symposium on Intercultural Learning in 2025,  attended a lecture held in collaboration with Dr. Cheri Westmoreland and Charity Winburn (Nov 14th). Numerous questions were asked by highly motivated students who are extremely looking forward to visiting Croatia.

Since University of Cincinnati students often participate in the Student Section of the CECIIS International Conference, information about the upcoming 15th CECIIS Student Section planned for September 2025 was shared at the meetings. The co-leaders of the CECIIS Student section are Prof. dr. Violeta Vidaček Hainš, prof. dr. Victoria Appatova and associate dr. Anotnela Devčić. The CECIIS student section has been continuously organized and performed since 2011, so far 272 students from 10 different countries have presented 186 student research projects.

Cooperation with the University of Cincinnati was realized on the basis of a bilateral agreement between the University of Cincinnati, OH and the University of Zagreb, which was first signed at the initiative of FOI in 2013. The cooperation expanded and the University of Zagreb became a strategic partner of the University of Cincinnati.
